Holiday Host Program

The Office of Multicultural Development and International Student Services are excited to offer the Holiday Host Program for our international students, our Dimension Award scholars and the surrounding community!

Our goal is to connect ONU's current international students and Dimension Award scholars with local families and community members who are willing to open their homes during the holiday breaks this semester. Celebrations could include Thanksgiving or Christmas meals, events and family gatherings, weekend trips, faith outings, or simply hanging out. The duration and amount of interaction can be decided between the student and the family.

This program does multiple things. For our international students, it is an opportunity to experience U.S. family life and to participate in U.S. customs and traditions that surround our holidays. For Dimension Award scholars, it is an opportunity to connect more deeply with our surrounding community. It also is a great opportunity for all involved to share their own perspectives as well as make new connections.

PROGRAM DATES

Applications for Winter Break 2017 are open! Winter Holiday Host runs from December 16, 2017 to January 14, 2018.

Some students will travel over the break, so dates, times and length of stay are all negotiable. Families can host for a meal, for a weekend or longer! Plans and arrangements, including transportation, will be made between the family and the student(s) once you are matched.

HOW IT WORKS

Interested families submit an application, the students submit applications, and we match you, to the best of our abilities, according to the info you specified. We will email you your match and you can begin contacting each other to figure out the best time that works for you!  You can also set up a meeting with our office if you have any questions or email us!

TO APPLY

Applications are due Wednesday, December 13, 2017.

If you have any more questions about the program or how it works, visit the Host Family FAQs page, and feel free to contact Omega Hollies, ONU's international services coordinator, at o-hollies@onu.edu or 419-772-1966. Be sure to put "Holiday Host" in your subject line!
