Earn college credit as a high school student

College Credit Plus (CCP) at ONU provides participating high schools and students with a unique and sustainable way to take advantage of a rigorous curriculum through college-level courses while earning college credit. Ohio Northern offers students the opportunity to attend ONU courses on our campus or to take ONU courses from qualified high school faculty members at participating schools.
  • College Readiness Standards
The state of Ohio requires that students demonstrate college-readiness as a requirement for CCP participation. Prospective students must meet one of the approved subtests from the table below to be deemed eligible for the program.

  • Once a student has met the college-readiness requirement, ONU will review the application for CCP admission. Ohio Northern University requires a 3.0 GPA and a 20 ACT composite score or 1020 SAT score for admission to the University. In lieu of an ACT or SAT score, a student can meet the readiness score in all areas of the ACCUPLACER for admission to ONU. (See chart above.)

Test optional: Without test scores, Ohio Northern University will require a 3.0 GPA.

To apply: 1) Please complete the online application, 2) submit a high school transcript, 3) submit test scores, and 4) print, complete and submit the mature content permission slip. The College Credit Plus application deadline is May 1.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • College Credit Plus (CCP) is Ohio's dual-enrollment program that allows qualified students in grades 7–12 to earn high school and college credit simultaneously. At Ohio Northern University, students can take actual university courses either directly on ONU's campus or through approved high school teachers at participating local high schools.

  • To participate, students must first meet the state of Ohio's college-readiness benchmarks in English, reading, or math (via ACT, SAT, or Next-Generation Accuplacer scores). Once readiness is established, ONU requires a minimum 3.0 unweighted high school GPA. If submitting test scores, ONU looks for an ACT composite of 20 or an SAT score of 1020.

  • Yes! If a student has not taken the ACT or SAT, ONU offers a test-optional track for CCP admission. Students who demonstrate a 3.0 or higher cumulative high school GPA are eligible to apply without submitting standardized test scores.

  • To apply for CCP at ONU, students must complete the following by the May 1 application deadline:

    • Complete the online ONU CCP Application.
    • Have their high school submit official transcripts.
    • Submit test scores (if applicable).
    • Print, complete, and upload the signed Mature Content Permission Slip.

(Note: Public and private school students must also submit an Intent to Participate form to their school or state portal by April 1).

  • CCP students can choose from a broad selection of foundational general education courses across introductory topics, including College Algebra, Calculus 1, General Psychology, General Physics, Presentational Speaking, American Politics, and Spanish or French. These credits build a strong foundation that easily transfers toward a degree at ONU or other institutions.
