What majors offer Study Abroad Opportunities?

Glad you asked! There are many options for you to pick from and be able to add in a study abroad experience. There are opportunities for every major at Ohio Northern. Here are some of our most common.

  • Current ONU engineering majors are enrolled in a spring semester class culminating in a trip to Germany, others are planning a summer in Korea, and a semester in Spain.

  • You might think pharmacy students can’t study abroad but ONU pharmacy students can explore the amazon over spring break, study for a summer in Korea, Argentina, or intern in Costa Rica.

  • ONU Spanish majors and Spanish-speaking students have opportunities to study by immersion in 7 Latin American countries and of course Spain.

  • International business course opportunities abound in Finland, Scotland, Netherlands, and Japan while ONU students build their international networks.

  • ONU nursing students can travel for a service trip to the Dominican Republic, explore the amazon over spring break, study in Argentina, or intern in Costa Rica.

  • Recent ONU music and theatre majors have spent a semester abroad in Manchester, England, home of MediaCityUK.

ONU SCHOLARSHIPS

AIFS GRANT | We are pleased to offer two $1,000 grants for students participating in a spring semester 2019 AIFS program. The $400 Affiliate Grant will be awarded in addition to the $1,000 grant. Students also remain eligible to apply for our other AIFS scholarships. These grants will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. The first two students to register for a spring 2019 AIFS program will receive the grants.

Other scholarships available, please see below.

  • This award is available to students in the College of Arts & Sciences pursuing study abroad.

  • The Karen Condeni/ Phyllis Howser Scholp Study Abroad Scholarship supports students participating in Ohio Northern University study abroad programs and experiences in a European or Asian country with preference given to applicants pursuing a major or a minor in the College of Arts & Sciences.

  • If students pursue study abroad opportunities with select ONU study abroad providers, the students receive a discount on program fees.

  • Fellowship stipends are awarded by the dean’s office by each undergraduate college. Students attend Hanyang International Summer School in Seoul, South Korea. ONU has an exchange agreement with Hanyang University that enables students to receive free summer tuition. Hanyang Fellowship consists of both the stipend and free summer tuition!

  • ONU has an exchange agreement that enables students to receive free summer tuition in the Academic Program at the Dankook University International Summer School in Seoul, South Korea. If students are accepted to serve in the Dankook Global Village program, students receive free housing and partial reimbursement on flights.

  • Although these scholarships aren't typically for current students, ONU encourages students to apply for fully-funded Fulbright opportunities after graduation.

  • Many national and international organizations provide scholarships for students to study abroad. Service organizations such as Phi Kappa Phi and need-based awards such as the Gilman Scholarship and Boren Award offer generous financial assistance. Many other scholarships can be combined for students studying abroad.
