Jasmine Headshot

Jasmine Duarte, PGY1 Resident

For Jasmine Duarte, the ONU Healthwise PGY1 Residency program stood out because of its dedication to providing patient-centered care to rural and underserved communities. Having witnessed firsthand the challenges patients face in accessing consistent, affordable healthcare, Jasmine was drawn to the clinic’s unique model of pharmacist-led services, which are offered at no cost to patients.

“Healthwise gives me the chance to use my skills in a way that truly meets people’s needs,” Jasmine shared. “I’m passionate about making healthcare approachable and ensuring patients feel seen, heard, and supported.”

A Chicago native, Jasmine earned her bachelor’s degree in integrated health studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago before completing her PharmD. During pharmacy school, she was actively involved with the Community Drug Education Committee (CDEC), where she provided education and support for individuals experiencing homelessness and managing chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. This work reinforced her commitment to addressing health disparities and inspired her to pursue residency training.

Beyond the clinical opportunities, Jasmine values the chance to teach and mentor students. She credits much of her growth to the guidance of her own mentors and hopes to carry that forward by inspiring the next generation of pharmacists.

Jasmine is excited to explore these passions further through her PGY1 research project, which will focus on expanding pharmacist-driven services that increase access to essential healthcare resources in underserved populations.
Katie Headshot

Kaitlyn Kirby, PGY1 Resident

Kaitlyn “Katie” Kirby, PharmD ’25, a Bluffton, Ohio native and proud ONU graduate, chose the ONU Healthwise PGY1 Residency program to serve her local community and continue growing with a healthcare team she respects and admires.

Katie began working with Healthwise during her second year of pharmacy school—right in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic. She played a role in frontline efforts, swabbing patients and assisting with COVID-19 testing for students, faculty, staff, and community members. Later, she transitioned to a pharmacy intern role with Healthwise, further strengthening her clinical experience.

“Throughout my time with Healthwise, patient interaction was very important to me,” Katie shared. “That connection ultimately became a deciding factor in selecting my PGY1 residency.”

Katie understands the challenges many rural residents face in accessing care, especially those with limited resources. Now she’s proud to provide care for her hometown and neighboring areas, as Bluffton is a Healthwise clinical site.

“I’ve seen how much we mean to the community and the strong impact we can have,” she said. “It’s incredibly rewarding to build long-term relationships with patients.”

Katie is also enthusiastic about working with ONU pharmacy students.

“When I was a student, the Healthwise residents were wonderful role models and helped me grow as a student pharmacist. Now, I am honored to be able to support and mentor current students.”
