The ONU Raabe College of Pharmacy Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) are based on the ACPE educational outcomes and entrustable professional activities (2022). 

 

 

 

PHARMD LEARNING OUTCOMES

  1. Seek, analyze, integrate, and apply foundational knowledge of medications and pharmacy practice (biomedical; pharmaceutical; social, behavioral, administrative; and clinical sciences; drug classes; and digital health).

  2. Use problem solving and critical thinking skills, along with an innovative mindset, to address challenges and to promote positive change.

  3. Actively engage, listen, and communicate verbally, nonverbally, and in writing when interacting with or educating an individual, group, or organization.

  4. Mitigate health disparities by considering, recognizing, and navigating cultural and structural factors (e.g. social determinants of health, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility) to improve access and health outcomes. 

  5. Provide whole person care to individuals as the medication specialist using the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process.

  6. Promote the best interests of patients and/or the pharmacy profession within healthcare settings and at the community, state, or national level. 

  7. Optimize patient healthcare outcomes using human, financial, technological, and physical resources to improve the safety, efficacy, and environmental impact of medication use systems.

  8. Actively engage and contribute as a healthcare team member by demonstrating core interprofessional competencies.

  9. Assess factors that influence the health and wellness of a population and develop strategies to address those factors.

At the end of this program, graduates will be able to:

 #1 Integrate knowledge from the foundational sciences to patient-centered care in the evaluation of scientific literature, explanation of drug actions, solving of therapeutic problems, and advancement of population health.

#2 Provide essentials for practice and patient-centered care as the medication expert, manager of medication use systems, promoter of health and wellness, and influencer of population based-care.  

 #3 Facilitate practice and care as a collaborator, problem solver, includer, effective communicator, educator of all audiences, and advocate for the patient's best interests.

 #4 Exhibit behaviors and values that are consistent with the trust given to the profession including self-awareness, leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship, and professionalism to patient-centered care and practice.

 

 

 

PHARMACEUTICAL and BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES LEARNING OUTCOMES

  1. Foundational knowledge of pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences
    1. The student will demonstrate an understanding of biology, chemistry, physical, physiology, genetics, immunology, biochemistry, anatomy and molecular biology, relevant mathematics and statistics. 
    2. The student will demonstrate an understanding of basic pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics and therapeutics.
    3. The student will demonstrate an understanding of various research techniques, including pharmacological, physiological, molecular, behavioral and biochemical methods. 
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills
    1. The student will learn to communicate at a scientific level.
    2. The student will demonstrate proficiency in reading, interpreting and presenting scientific literature. 
    3. The student will demonstrate proficiency in the preparation and delivery of an oral presentation. 
    4. The student will demonstrate proficiency in written communication, including developing skills in succinct writing (such as in preparing an abstract) and in-depth analysis of a topic. 
  3. Critical thinking skills, innovation and creativity
    1. The student will be able to critically evaluate all aspects of a scientific manuscript. 
    2. The student will understand the relationship between their foundational knowledge and scientific research. 
  4. Innovation, problem solving and creativity
    1. The student will be able to apply their foundational knowledge of pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences in order to be able to plan a scientific study, including generating a hypothesis, designing experiments, performing experiments and understanding proposed outcomes. 
  5. Ability to collaborate and successfully work in teams
    1. The student will participate in an internship in pharmaceutical or biomedical industry, and participate in research with faculty within the College of Pharmacy, and will gain an understanding of how different areas of expertise must come together to achieve specific outcomes. 
    2. The student will interact with professionals/specialists, and learn the importance of these interactions in achieving successful outcomes.
