CRIMINAL JUSTICE
Students in the criminal justice major will:
- Define the major components of the American Criminal Justice system and associated terms.
- Articulate knowledge of the nature of crime and the historical and philosophical foundations of criminological theory and thought.
- Analyze the major issues facing the criminal justice system and the impact on criminal justice policy.
- Describe careers in the field of criminal justice and understand the roles of criminal justice actors as preparation for the workplace or advance study.
- Critique and examine scholarly work related to the field of criminal justice.
- Establish critical thinking and writing through the creation of a criminal justice-related capstone project.
HISTORY
Upon successful completion of the History program, graduates will be able to:
1. Demonstrate historical research skills by using primary and secondary sources, including archival and database sources.
2. Analyze the material in SLO 1 to create an accurate and coherent historical narrative that illuminates a significant event or movement from the past.
3. Demonstrate an effective oral presentation on historical research to an extra-divisional audience and answering audience questions.
POLITICAL SCIENCE
Students in the political science major will:
- Demonstrate knowledge of key concepts and theoretical frameworks in American, comparative, and international politics.
- Demonstrate competency in critical and analytical reasoning skills necessary for the study of political science.
- Communicate effectively through strong writing and oral skills.
- Demonstrate competency with tools underlying modern social science research, including statistical or qualitative analysis.
- Participate as a civically engaged member of society.
SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION
Upon successful completion of the Social Studies Education program, graduates will be able to:
1: Demonstrate competency in the content areas of the Social Studies – History, Political Science, Geography, Economics, Psychology, and Sociology.
2: Effectively deliver the content knowledge of Social Studies to students in grades of 7-12.
