Major Preprofessional Program
Arts & Sciences

Ohio Northern University’s Athletic Training program will be voluntarily withdrawing accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) in May 2019. ONU will not be transitioning to the master’s degree program. As a result, incoming undergraduate students will no longer be admitted into the program after the 2018-19 academic year.

We are transitioning the athletic training program to an exercise physiology major with a concentration in clinical rehabilitation sciences. This major will prepare you for graduate school to become a physical therapist, occupational therapist or athletic trainer. Please visit our exercise physiology page.

Athletic trainers are in high demand across the country. To become a licensed athletic trainer, however, you need to obtain an advanced professional degree such as a masters.

At ONU, you can declare a pre-professional athletic training program along with your major. You will be assigned a faculty advisor who will help you design a program of study that prepares you for the rigorous academic coursework needed for entrance into an advanced practice doctorate program.

Our pre-professional allied health program gives you the flexibility to change your mind about your future. You’ll graduate with a marketable degree that will prepare you for a wide variety of future career paths. You’ll have a solid foundation in the basic and applied sciences, including physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, health and fitness, and exercise and medicine, as well as practical, hands-on experience under your belt.

From day one, you’ll be part of our family. You’ll enjoy small classes, a safe campus and lifelong friendships. Our supportive professors will get to know you by name. They’ll help you prepare for admission into a masters program of your choice – and excel once you get there.
