Religious Life Staff
Welcome. The Religious Life staff is made up of full-time and student staff members who are here to help you connect with your spiritual life and help you grow in your faith as you journey down your chosen path of study. ONU is related to the United Methodist Church, but we are here to help students of all faiths, or even no particular faith at all, as they explore the spiritual dimensions of college life.
Our Mission: As a Religious Life staff, we are:
Growing in Christ, Proclaiming the Good News and Reaching out in Fellowship to all.
The Rev. Dr. David E. MacDonald
David was ordained as elder in the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church in 2008. He has served churches in Niles, Marshallville, and Edison, Ohio, as well as Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK. In addition to serving as University chaplain, David coordinates Get Connected ONU, our online volunteer management system. David and his family attend Shawnee United Methodist Church in Lima, Ohio, and he is active in the Ada community. In his spare time, David likes to go camping, fishing and hiking, reading, writing haiku poetry, and taking his two dogs (Mack and Cheese) for walks around town. You might also see him driving his orange and black golfcart around Ada from time to time! David is a featured author in the new book from the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry, The Prophetic Voice and Making Peace, and he will have an article forthcoming in Presence: A Journal of Spiritual Direction.
