ART & DESIGN

Students in the art & design major will:

1. Creative Proficiency: Recognize and solve creative problems through the intentional use of concept, form, and medium in both studio arts and design practices.

2. Technical Proficiency: Demonstrate technical proficiency in the use of tools, materials, and processes relevant to their area of emphasis.

3. Historical and Contextual Knowledge:  Locate and utilize a variety of research materials, historical references, and theoretical sources relevant to art and design practice.

4. Critical Thinking and Visual Literacy: Analyze and evaluate works of art and design using appropriate critical frameworks and communicate informed judgments through written, oral, and visual means.

5. Creative Production: Produce a body of work that embodies a coherent set of aesthetic and intellectual goals reflecting a personal creative voice.

6. Professional Practice: Synthesize studio arts and design methodologies, liberal arts knowledge, and critical thinking to evaluate and communicate informed judgments about their own work and the work of others.
 

 

 

 

 

ART EDUCATION

Students in the art education major will:

1. Creative Proficiency: Recognize and solve creative problems through the intentional use of concept, form, and medium in both studio arts and design practices.

2. Technical Proficiency: Demonstrate technical proficiency in the use of tools, materials, and processes across a range of media relevant to studio arts and K–12 art instruction.

3. Historical and Contextual Knowledge: Locate and utilize a variety of research materials, historical references, and theoretical sources relevant to art practice and art education pedagogy.

4. Critical Thinking and Visual Literacy: Analyze and evaluate works of art using appropriate critical frameworks and communicate informed judgments through written, oral, and visual means.

5. Creative Production: Produce a body of work that embodies a coherent set of aesthetic and intellectual goals reflecting a personal creative voice.

6. Professional Practice: Synthesize studio arts knowledge, educational theory, and critical thinking to evaluate and communicate informed judgments about their own work, student work, and the broader field of art education.

 

 

 

 

COMMUNICATION & MEDIA

Students will demonstrate the following:

  1. Ability to analyze and synthesize materials from a variety of source to construct sound arguments using critical thinking
  2. Ability to identify and describe several foundational theories across the communication discipline
  3. Proficiency in public presentations, including organization, research, argumentation, delivery, visual aids, and audience adaptation
  4. Ability to locate and utilize a variety of research materials to construct arguments and support positions
  5. Proficiency in written communication, including the ability to write a discipline-specific research paper
  6. Ability to recognize and solve problems related to everyday communication
