You are warmly invited to attend Ohio Northern University’s annual Constitution Day event:
Tuesday, September 16
11:00 a.m.
Tilton Hall, Room 129
This year’s lecture, titled “What is a Constitutional Crisis?” will be presented by Professor Daniel Maurer of ONU Law. Professor Maurer will explore the growing concern among the public, press, and pundits about the possibility of a constitutional crisis in America.
He will address timely questions such as:
Could a president ignore a court order?
Can Congress curb the abuse of executive power?
Should courts defer to the president on national security matters—even when domestic military involvement is at stake?
In addition, Professor Maurer will introduce the idea of a deeper, less visible crisis: “communal civic illiteracy”— the widespread lack of knowledge or interest in constitutional principles. He will propose a set of "civic virtues" to enhance civic literacy and strengthen our democratic system.
Join us for this important and thought-provoking discussion on the health of our constitutional system. We look forward to seeing you there.
