Theatre Arts Facilities

A photo of the fountain in front of Freed Center.Ohio Northern values the arts, and it shows in the investment we’ve made in our theatrical facilities. Very few small universities can rival our impressive performance venues. They’re a joy for audiences and performers alike!

The Freed Center for the Performing Arts is a modern, fully equipped theatre complex that offers an ideal combination of beauty, comfort and technical capacity. It contains a main theatre/concert hall (Biggs Theatre), a studio theatre (Stambaugh Theatre), performance support facilities, a dance studio, and an educational wing with offices and classrooms.

The 550-seat Biggs Theatre, an adjustable-width proscenium house, is elegant and beautiful. It offers excellent views from every seat and a fully motorized orchestra pit. Five beautiful chandeliers rise to signal the start of every show.

The 132-seat Stambaugh Theatre is perfect for smaller and more intimate theatrical productions and experimental theatre. The room has flexible seating that can be configured in many ways –  like thrust, proscenium, in-the-round or unique combinations envisioned by the stage designer.

The dance studio is a large, airy space complete with ballet barres, mirrors, high ceilings to accommodate leaps and dance lifts, and a suspended floor to cushion the dancer’s body from the impact of leaps and jumps. The dance studio also serves as the department’s primary rehearsal space.
