undergraduate scholarships

ONU awards the following merit scholarships after a student has been accepted to the University. Scholarships are based on a formula that takes into account academic performance and results of standardized testing. Weighted high school GPAs and super scores for the ACT and/or SAT will be considered.

Presidential Scholarship: $22,000-$23,000 per year (College of Pharmacy: $25,000)
Scholarship value over four years: $88,000-$92,000

Trustee Scholarship: $21,000-$22,000 per year (College of Pharmacy: $23,000)
Scholarship value over four years: $84,000-$88,000

Dean's Scholarship: $19,000-$20,000 per year
Scholarship value over four years: $76,000-$80,000

Faculty Scholarship: $17,000-$18,000 per year
Scholarship value over four years: $68,000-$72,000

 

Other Scholarships and Awards

 

Mathile Scholarship (Full-tuition)
Selected students with a minimum ACT score of 30 (1360 SAT, evidence-based reading and writing plus math) and a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 will be considered for this award. Finalists will be invited to complete on-campus evaluations. Students must apply for admission and be accepted to the university prior to December 1 for Mathile consideration. Two full-tuition renewable scholarships will be awarded in honor of the contributions ONU alumnus Clayton Mathile and his wife, Mary, have made to Ohio Northern University. The Mathile Scholarship will replace all other ONU scholarships and awards.

James F. Dicke Scholarship (Full-tuition)
Students who are admitted to the James F. Dicke College of Business Administration and have a minimum ACT score of 29 (1330 SAT, evidence-based reading and writing plus math) and a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 will be considered for this award. A selection committee will determine finalists, who will be invited to campus to interview. From these interviews, a recipient of the James F. Dicke Scholarship will be selected. The scholarship will renew each year for a maximum of four years. 

Talent Award (Up to $4,000 per year with an audition/portfolio review)
Talent awards are available to students in the College of Arts and Sciences who choose a major in the Studio Arts, Graphic Design, Music (majors and non-majors), Musical Theatre, Theatre or English. Also, students who minor in dance or participate in any of the auditioned ensembles can qualify for a talent award. Talent award consideration in these programs require an audition, portfolio review or interview. Talent awards are coordinated with other University grants and scholarships. 

Dimension Award ($1,000-$7,000 per year)
Ohio Northern University is committed to recruiting students from all segments of society and supporting their retention to graduation. The purpose of the Dimension Award is to offer financial assistance to incoming freshmen and transfers who are from underrepresented populations. Award amounts are based on academic credentials and financial need.
 
Legacy Award ($3,000 per year)
Awarded to legally dependent (defined by IRS) sons or daughters of ONU graduates or a prospective student who already has a sibling enrolled full-time at ONU.

Ministerial Deduction (Half-tuition per year)
The Ministerial Deduction guarantees eligible students will receive a total of ONU scholarships,  grants and awards at least equal to half tuition. Students that qualify are unmarried, legally dependent children, under the age of 25, of a licensed and ordained elder of the United Methodist Church who is currently under active appointment by the annual conference. This tuition reduction also applies to children of retired and deceased ministers. A separate application listing specific criteria is required. Financial need is not a factor

Math and Engineering Education Scholarships ($20,000 per year)
This scholarship is awarded to junior and senior math education and engineering education majors in addition to everything else included in that student’s financial aid package. To be eligible, students have to pledge that, after graduating, they will spend two years in a high-need school district for every year of receiving the scholarship. In addition to school districts across the U.S., many local districts have been designated as high-need, including Elida, Lima, Perry, Findlay, Kenton, Piqua, Dayton, Toledo and Leipsic. To keep the scholarship, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and participate in at least 40 hours of experiential learning activities per year. These can include outreach events, student clubs devoted to engineering education and math, summer research and internships. Choose Ohio First Scholarship (up to $8,100)
In partnership with the Ohio Board of Regents, ONU offers scholarship for Ohio students who major in certain STEM fields. These include majoring in Computer Engineering and Computer Science. ICAPP Scholarship ($1,000 per year)
The Institute for Civics and Public Policy (ICAPP) Scholarship is awarded to students with a passion for civics, public policy or public service. ICAPP Scholars will have unique opportunities to pursue a variety of programs sponsored through the Institute for Civics and Public Policy at Ohio Northern University.
