Major Minor Concentration

The undergraduate Strength & Conditioning major at Ohio Northern University is one of only two majors in the Midwest region recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and also as an Education Recognition Program within the 8 state region. The ERP recognizes and distinguishes schools that prepare students for NSCA certification exams. Our program combines practical, real world instruction with a challenging academic curriculum. With a foundation in the basic sciences, you’ll learn about physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics and nutrition and how each contributes to improving human performance.

At ONU, you’ll receive in-depth training using the latest technology and machines in our state-of-the-art Strength and Conditioning lab in the King Horn Sports Center and Dial Roberson Stadium. Under the guidance of your professors, you’ll develop performance strategies and programs for Northern’s top notch NCAA Division III athletes, working with the athletes one-on-one. Additionally, you’ll complete and internship that is required of all Strength & Conditioning students. ONU Strength & Conditioning students have completed internships at the Cleveland Clinic, The Ohio State University, The University of Oregon and with the Cincinnati Bengals.

At ONU, you’ll benefit from small class sizes and a family-like atmosphere. Northern professors, staff, and alumni will go above and beyond to ensure your academic and professional success. Upon graduation, you’ll be prepared to sit for national certification exams like those offered by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. You’ll have the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed in graduate school or in a wide variety of professional careers in strength and conditioning.

Our students have been accepted into graduate programs at schools like The Ohio State University, Ball State University, Ohio University, the University of Akron and Indiana University in Bloomington. They’ve also launched careers with organizations like the Cincinnati Bengals, and at Universities like Alabama, Indiana, Michigan State, and Findlay. Some have even gone on to own their own facilities in the private sector. The possibilities are endless!
