Summer Music Camp

JUNE 12-17 2016

Ohio Northern University’s Summer Music Camp is designed for students in grades 7-12 and provides many performing and educational opportunities. Campers register as vocal, band or string major, with auditions held the first day of camp to determine chair and voice placement.

Campers will have the opportunity to perform in symphonic band, symphonic choir, string orchestra, instrumental ensembles, show choir and/or jazz band, and will be exposed to music theory, music technology, conducting, dance, piano classes and jazz improvisation. Symphonic choir, symphonic band and string orchestra rehearse throughout the week and perform on the Friday night concert. The small ensembles will perform on Thursday night.

For any questions contact Sarah Waters at s-waters@onu.edu or 419-227-2704.

Fourth Annual ONU Piano Camp

July 25-29, 2016

Music can be used to tell stories of all kinds. From folk songs to symphonic poems, music can be a powerful language to communicate a narrative. This year, our campers will explore composers who have told stories through their works. They also will learn ways of creating dramatic effects to tell a story at the piano. Campers will have the chance to tell a tale of their own by composing a piece that they will perform at the end of the week. They also will improve their own solo piece during daily master classes and play in a duet or trio, all featured in a recital on Friday. Campers will also participate in Dalcroze Eurhythmics sessions, which include ear-training, improvisation and movement. The elementary and middle school camps run concurrently.
