The Office of Financial Aid is here to assist families in financing a college education. Upon completion of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and acceptance into Ohio Northern, our office will offer you an award notice. This award notice will be made up of various types of financial aid. Listed below are the four types of financial aid you may see on your award notice.
Scholarships
Typically merit based, scholarships are gift aid that you do not have to pay back. Scholarships are generally based on grade point average, test scores or talent.

Grants
Grants are gift aid that you do not have to repay. Federal, state and institutional grants are generally based on financial need as defined by the FAFSA.
Loans
Low-interest student-loan programs are offered by the federal government and by private lenders to assist you in paying for school. Loans require repayment, which is often deferred until after graduation.
Federal Work-Study
Work-study is available to those who qualify. In addition, we encourage students to work during the summer to offset the cost of books and personal expenses.
