2011 Student Juried A&D Exhibit

In jurying this show, I responded to work that exemplified just that- full immersion of one’s self in the artistic process, from initial idea generation to final presentation. In evaluation of the 75 initial submissions, I was impressed by the variety of media applications that speaks to the diversity, vision and interplay of the art and design program here at Ohio Northern University.

In respect to this, I looked for work that exhibited creativity and dynamic execution of formal resolution, technical knowledge and conceptual underpinnings. This included exhibition of a clear dialogue between the artist, the medium, and the message, confident understanding and use of medium that took full advantage of its potential, awareness of the artists’ visual voice, innovative problem solving, and active engagement of the design process on all levels. Selected works of recognition exhibited all of these aspects as well as passion, integrity, true dedication to the medium, research, design process, and professional presentation of the work. In turn, these works conveyed a clear understanding of what the student was communicating in the work and created an experience worth engaging in.

Congratulations to everyone, and thank you for sharing this opportunity with me. I look forward to what the next 50 years of art and design at ONU has to bring!
