Mathematics and Statistics Students present at the University of Findlay
Senior mathematics major, Lauren Cassell from Vandalia, Ohio, presented the paper, “Guarding a Koch Fractal Art Gallery,” and senior mathematics major Joseph Mileski from Tiffin, Ohio, presented the paper, “Paths of Melody Lines on Circles,” at the fall meeting of the Ohio Section of the Mathematics Association of America at the University of Findlay, Oct. 21, 2011
Cassell’s paper dealt with calculating the density of watchmen needed to guard an infinitely-sided fractal art gallery.
Mileski’s paper dealt with a method of graphing the flow of musical phrases on a circle. The work that the students reported is part of their senior capstone experience. Both students have Dr. Bill Fuller as their capstone advisor.
