ONU announces new chair, vice chair and two new board members

The Ohio Northern University Board of Trustees elected a new chair and vice chair of the board on Friday, Oct. 7, and Saturday, Oct 8. John Bishop was elected chair of the ONU Board of Trustees for a two-year term, and Daniel Walker was elected vice chair of the board for a two-year term. Oscar Mifsud will continue to serve as vice chair of the board. Joining the board are Dominic Bartone and Jason Duff.

Pharmacy honors distinguished alumni

Ohio Northern University’s Raabe College of Pharmacy honored three alumni with Distinguished Alumni Awards on Nov. 2. This is the fifth year that Distinguished Alumni Awards have been presented by the Raabe College of Pharmacy.

Mary Stambaugh Bowden named Ada’s Distinguished Citizen of the Year
Mary Stambaugh Bowden, a lifelong resident of Hardin County, was named Ada’s Distinguished Citizen of the Year at the 46th annual Town and Gown Banquet at Ohio Northern University on Monday, Nov. 7.

Ohio Northern University to host education speaker

Ohio Northern University’s Center for Teacher Education will host a professional development program for educators, “Including All Learners in a Mixed-ability Classroom,” in the McIntosh Center Ballroom on Nov. 14, 2011, at 7 p.m.

ONU to host heroin panel

Ohio Northern University will host "Schools and Prevention," a panel discussion on heroin, on Monday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. in the forum of James F. Dicke Hall.

ONU presents 17th Holiday Spectacular
Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents the 17th annual Holiday Spectacular in both Ada and Lima. Featuring popular Christmas songs, the production centers on the misadventures of Mrs. Claus and Pixel the elf as they try to help Santa Claus on Christmas Eve.

Helmer publishes article
Assistant professor of law Elena Helmer is co-author with Stuart Deming, of a new article, “Non-Governmental Organizations: Anticorruption Compliance Challenges and Risks,” published in the summer issue of The International Lawyer.

Reid presents paper at symposium
Dr. Ken Reid, director of engineering education, recently co-presented "Putting the 'E' in STEM Education: Ohio Northern University's Engineering Education Major" at the NWO Symposium on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Teaching, held at Bowling Green State University.  

Reid presents papers at Frontiers in Education conference

Dr. Ken Reid, director of engineering education, recently presented five papers at the Frontiers in Education conference in Rapid City, S.D., a conference offered through the American Society for Engineering Education and the IEEE Education Society.

Faculty, staff and students of ONU have access to the online edition of the Chronicle of Higher Education, thanks to the Heterick Memorial Library. The subscription is available at http://0-chronicle.com.polar.onu.edu. On-campus users have direct access to the publication. Off-campus users must enter their name and University ID as a password.

Dr. Mohammad Khasawneh’s highway engineering students attended the Ohio Transportation Engineering Conference, Oct. 25-26, in Columbus. The theme for this year's conference was "Financing our Future."

Graduate receives broadcast honor

Geoff Peterfy, BA ’11, originally from Westerville, Ohio, now working at WTOL-TV in Toledo, Ohio, is winner of the 2011 National Student Production Award for the Best News Reporting-Video/Television, presented at the College Broadcasters, Inc., fall conference in Orlando, Fla. He was honored for his news story, “The Making of the Super Bowl Footballl.”
