Department of Mathematics and Statistics hosts Math Awareness Day
The Ohio Northern University Math Department recently hosted the Tenth Annual High School Math Awareness Day. The full day of events included math seminars, conducted by ONU professors and math majors, and a symposium on “Careers in Math” hosted by the ONU Math Department.
The math seminars were “Elm Tree Math” by senior mathematics major Molly Eickholt, from Dublin, Ohio, “Stats All Folks” by Dr. Ryan Rahrig and “Quaternion Mittens” by Dr. Bill Fuller. The symposium was lead by Dr. Harold Putt.
Students from 12 area high schools attended the Mathematics Awareness Day program. The schools were Ada, Allen East, Bath, Bellefontaine, Benjamin Logan, Cory-Rawson, Indian Lake, Leipsic, Lima Central Catholic, McComb, Perry and Van Buren. All in all there were 48 students and six teachers. In their feedback sheets students mentioned that they really enjoyed the hands-on approaches and interesting examples of the seminars.
