The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team won the 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference championships Saturday night at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium. The Polar Bears won their seventh consecutive title under seven-year head coach Peggy Ewald.

University Singers plan spring trip
Ohio Northern’s University Singers will begin their spring tour on Feb. 25 in Cincinnati, Ohio, and continue through March 6 in Athens, Ga.

Social entrepreneur to speak at Spotts Lecture
Dr. Paul Polak, founder of the Colorado-based nonprofit organization International Development Enterprises (IDE), will be the featured speaker for the Ohio Northern University Spotts Lecture in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, March 21, at 7 p.m. His speech, "Design for the Other 90 Percent," is free and open to the public.

Kritzler lecture, March 22
Dr. Paul W. Bohn will deliver Ohio Northern University's 2011 Kritzler Lecture, titled "Integrated Microfluidics in 3-D Scientific Challenges in Putting Your Hospital's Clinical Lab on a Key Ring," in 107 Meyer Hall of Science on Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m.

Freed Center presents 'Star Trek Live'
Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents "Star Trek Live," a creation of Mad Science Productions, on Friday, March 18, at 7 p.m.

Broedel-Zaugg to receive Kappa Epsilon Career Achievement Award

Kim Broedel-Zaugg, Ohio Northern University professor of pharmacy practice, is the recipient of the Kappa Epsilon's 2011 Career Achievement Award, which will be presented at the Kappa Epsilon reception in Seattle on Saturday, March 26.

Science Fair judges needed
Faculty, staff and students 21 and older or who have junior status are invited to volunteer as judges for District Science Day. This year’s science day will be Saturday, March 19.

Leadership class forming
It's time to register the 19th group for Hardin Leadership. The registration brochure is available online. 
Hardin Leadership 2011
Hardin County's leadership development program for improving the leadership knowledge, skills and aspirations of current and emerging community leaders.
 Participants meet the second Thursday of each month, March through November. Contact OSU Extension Office (419) 674-2297. Registration deadline is Feb. 28. 


Join the Relay for Life
Teams are being organized for Relay for Life’s April 29-30 event on the ONU tundra. The event begins at 6 p.m., April 29 and ends at noon April 30 with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. To learn more about forming a team for this event, contact Jaclyn Purgert.

Academic Information Fair
Academic departments and professional organizations can showcase their programs to recruiters at ONU’s Spring Career and Graduate School fair, March 9, sponsored by the Office of Career Services. The academic information event will coincide with the Career and Graduate Fair so recruiters can maximize their time on campus. Faculty members can network with recruiters and make connections for internships and jobs. The Academic Information Fair will be in the Field House where recruiters can visit before or after the open fair which is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. To reserve a spot, e-mail Jane Ward at j-ward.2@onu.edu.  

Learn to swim
ONU Swimming and Diving learn to swim lessons will be offered April 3,10,17 and May 1 and 8 by students in the coaching theories of competitive swimming class with proceeds to benefit the ONU men and women's swimming and diving team. Cost is $50. For details, contact j-ewald@onu.edu.

Three receive asphalt scholarships
Three juniors in civil engineering, Michael Abraham from Olmsted Falls, Ohio, Chad Coward from Crestline, Ohio, and Andrea Turnwald from Ottoville, Ohio, have received Hot Mix Asphalt scholarships. The scholarships are for $1,000 each.

Jessup Moot Court team competes in quarterfinals
The ONU Law Jessup International Law Moot Court Team completed Feb. 10-12 in the 2011 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition Midwest U.S. Super-Regional Round in Chicago. Out of 24 teams competing, ONU finished seventh after the preliminary four rounds.

Passport Day, March 10
ONU will host a Passport Day, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., March 10 in the McIntosh Center. Cost of a basic adult passport is $150, including photos. Anyone wishing to apply for a U.S. passport must have a certified copy of their birth certificate and a photo ID. Two checks or money orders are needed for payment.

Women's Basketball advances to OAC semifinals
The Ohio Northern women's basketball team advanced to the OAC Tournament semifinal round after a 75-68 win over No. 6 seeded Muskingum in the opening round Tuesday night in the ONU Sports Center. The Polar Bears (17-9) are seeded No. 3 in the tournament and will host No. 7 John Carroll, Thursday Feb. 24.
