Sociology professor tabbed as editor-in-chief of academic journal
Dr. Keith F. Durkin, Ohio Northern University professor of sociology and chair of the ONU psychology and sociology department, has assumed the duties as editor-in chief of the International Journal of Sociological Research.
The International Journal of Sociological Research addresses a broad spectrum of sociological issues. International in scope, it publishes refereed theoretical as well as qualitative and quantitative substantive and applied research papers. All areas of sociological study are considered. The journal publishes two issues per year and one special issue per year.
“It is a tremendous honor to be appointed to this important position,” said Durkin. “I am excited by the chance to provide a quality outlet for scholars in my discipline toshare their valuable research with an international audience.”
Durkin will incorporate ONU undergraduate students as editorial assistants, providing psychology and sociology students the opportunity to garner first-hand exposure to the peer review process in science.
Durkin will oversee a board of associate editors that consists of prominent international experts in the field of sociology, including faculty members from Tulane University, University of South Alabama, Ohio State University, Texas A&M, Louisiana State University, University of Central Florida and Pontificia Universidade Catolica de Minas Gerais in Brazil. In addition, there also are editors who work for the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Department of Defense.
Also a criminologist, Durkin has published more than 50 journal articles and book chapters dealing with topics such as sexual predators, Internet crime/deviance, and binge drinking by college students. He has served as president of the Mid-South Sociological Association and as an associate editor of Sociological Inquiry: Sociological Spectrum; and Deviant Behavior: An Interdisciplinary Journal. He serves as a consultant and trainer for law enforcement and has provided expert testimony in high-profile sex abuse cases. He has been quoted in dozens of media outlets, including the Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Miami Herald, Las Vegas Sun, Columbus Dispatch, Fox News.com, ABC.com, and MSN.com. He also has made a number of radio and television appearances.
