Spring Band Festival
The Ohio Northern University Freed Center for the Performing arts presents Spring Band Festival XXXV. The wind orchestra will perform on Friday, May 7, at 8 p.m., and the symphonic and honors bands will perform Sunday, May 9, at 4 p.m.
This year’s program is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Edwin L. Williams, former music department chair, and his wife, professor Rosemary Zika Williams. The members of Kappa Kappa Psi, the band fraternity, have commissioned composer/conductor Patrick Burns to compose and premiere a piece in their honor.
Conducted by Burns, the wind orchestra will perform Burns’ new work, “Soundtrack.” The orchestra will also perform David Maslanka’s “Give Us This Day” under the direction of Dr. Thomas Hunt.
The festival will also feature the All Ohio Honors Band, comprised of more than 120 instrumentalists from across the state.
Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors and non-ONU students, $9 for children, and $5 for ONU students. The Freed Center box office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Phone orders are accepted with American Express, MasterCard, VISA or Discover by calling 419-772-1900.
