Academic Merit Scholarships

ONU awards the following academic merit scholarships after a student has been accepted to the University. Factors that go into determining the level of a student's scholarship include: high school GPA, high school weighted GPA, intended college of enrollment at ONU, and standardized test scores (ACT/SAT). These scholarship amounts apply to students accepted to start as freshman for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Presidential- $26,500-29,500
(College of Pharmacy $32,500-$34,500)

Trustees-$25,500-$28,500
(College of Pharmacy $30,500-$32,500)

Deans-$23,500-$26,500
(College of Pharmacy $28,500-$30,500)

Faculty-$20,500-$23,500
(College of Pharmacy $25,500-$27,500)

Other Scholarships and Awards

 

Mathile Scholarship (Full-tuition)
Students with a minimum ACT score of 30 (1360 SAT, evidence-based reading and writing plus math) and a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 are eligible to apply for this full-tuition scholarship. To apply, a student must submit an application for admission and be accepted by January 1. After a review of all applications, a group of finalists will be invited to complete an on-campus interview with the selection committee.  Two students will be selected and offered full-tuition renewable scholarships. The Mathile Scholarship will replace all other ONU scholarships and awards.  

James F. Dicke Scholarship (Full-tuition)
Students who are admitted to the James F. Dicke College of Business Administration and have a minimum ACT score of 27 (1260 SAT, evidence-based reading and writing plus math) and a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 are eligible to apply for this full-tuition scholarship. Applicants for the award are invited to the Dicke Scholarship Day in late January where they will interview with the selection committee. From these interviews, one recipient of the James F. Dicke Scholarship will be selected. The scholarship will renew each year for a maximum of four years and replace all other ONU scholarships and awards. 

Austin E. Knowlton Memorial Scholarship 
The Austin E. Knowlton Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established by the Austin E. Knowlton Foundation in honor of Austin E. Knowlton, whose construction company built several University buildings. Scholarships will be awarded to Ohio Northern University engineering students including one incoming freshman, who are deemed worthy of financial assistance with preference to residents of Ohio.

Talent Award: Majors in Art, Music, Theatre, and English
(Up to $4000 per year with an audition/portfolio review)
Talent awards are available for students that choose to major in Studio Arts, Graphic Design, Music, Music Education, Musical Theatre, Theatre, Entertainment Design & Production, Dance (minor) or any of our English programs. Talent award consideration in these programs require an audition, portfolio review or interview. Talent awards are coordinated with other University grants and scholarships. Learn More - Click Here.

Talent Award: Non-Music Major 
Students interested in participating in selected music groups and ensembles are eligible to apply for this award. These are available to all students regardless of major. Music groups include Symphony Orchestra, University Singers, Marching Band and Symphonic Band. Award levels are granted based on the student's artistic potential. To Apply - Click Here.
 
Legacy Award ($3,000 per year)
Awarded to legally dependent (defined by IRS) sons or daughters of ONU graduates or a prospective student who already has a sibling enrolled full-time at ONU.

Ministerial Deduction (Half-tuition per year)

The Ministerial Deduction guarantees eligible students will receive a total of ONU scholarships,  grants and awards at least equal to half tuition. Students that qualify are unmarried, legally dependent children, under the age of 25, of a licensed and ordained elder of the United Methodist Church who is currently under active appointment by the annual conference. This tuition reduction also applies to children of retired and deceased ministers. A separate application listing specific criteria is required. Financial need is not a factor

Choose Ohio First Scholarship (up to $8,100)
In partnership with the Ohio Board of Regents, ONU offers scholarship for Ohio students who major in certain STEM fields. To qualify, students must be residents of Ohio. Transfer students, in eligible majors, also qualify to apply for Choose Ohio First. LEARN MORE - CLICK HERE!

ICAPP Scholarship ($1,000 per year)
The Institute for Civics and Public Policy (ICAPP) Scholarship is awarded to students with a passion for civics, public policy or public service. ICAPP Scholars will have unique opportunities to pursue a variety of programs sponsored through the Institute for Civics and Public Policy at Ohio Northern University. Two students will be named ICAPP Scholars and awarded a renewable annual scholarship of $1,000. TO APPLY - CLICK HERE!

NSF S-STEM Scholarship
S-STEM scholarships are multi-year renewable (up to four years) scholarships funded by the National Science Foundation for low-income, high-academic-potential students.

An entering student to ONU needs the following to be considered for the scholarship:

  1. Pell-Grant eligible
  2. Cumulative high school GPA of 3.75 or higher
  3. Accepted into one of the following ONU programs: Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Exploratory, or Mechanical Engineering
