The Writing Center provides support for all writers at every stage of the writing process. Whether you are looking for another eye to read over your already polished work or struggling to get started on a writing assignment, our trained peer tutors can help you reach the goals that you set for your writing. We serve students in all majors and subject areas, so if you have a writing-related question, schedule an appointment, send us an email, or stop by to write in the Writing Room.

One-on-One Tutoring Appointments

One-on-one tutoring appointments are available from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sundays, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, and from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Fridays. You can call (419) 772-2186 during these hours to schedule a 30-minute tutoring appointment or stop by for a walk-in appointment. Appointments are made on a first-come first-served basis, so we recommend that you schedule your tutoring session in advance.

Preparing for Your Appointment

When you come for a one-on-one tutoring session, please bring a print copy of your assignment sheet and at least one print copy of your draft-in-progress. We encourage you to spend some time thinking about the specific questions or concerns that you have about your writing so that you can discuss them with your tutor during your tutoring session. Make sure to schedule your appointment well in advance of the due date so that you have time to revise your writing in response to the feedback that you receive.

What to Expect

During your tutoring session, a peer tutor will:

  • Ask questions to help you revise your draft.
  • Show you how to use resources to develop your writing, including those that address citation, grammar, punctuation, and usage problems.
  • Make suggestions that can help you improve your writing.
  • NOT judge your writing. Your tutor will show you how to judge your writing yourself!

write in the writing room - No appointment needed!

The Writing Center is not just a space for tutoring; it is also a space for writing. Join us every Monday through Friday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. to work on your writing in a supportive environment. We will have a tutor available to help you brainstorm, work through writer’s block, or answer questions that come up as you write. Just bring your laptop or other writing materials to the Writing Center, and be prepared to write. In addition, stop by the Writing Room any time to use our chalkboard walls and colored chalk to get a different perspective on your writing as you brainstorm, outline, or map out portions of your essay on the walls!
