Academic Affairs

The Office of the Provost, in accordance with the mission of the University, strives to provide the leadership, support services and distribution of resources necessary to achieve maximum student learning.

RESPONSIBILITY

The Office of Academic Affairs is responsible for supporting the work of the faculty, whose teaching, advising and scholarship are the foundation of the academic programs. As the chief academic officer, the provost and vice president for Academic Affairs oversees the University curriculum and new curricular initiatives, faculty hiring and promotion, and support for faculty research and teaching. The five college deans and the director of the University's general education program directly assist the provost in these endeavors. The provost is a core participant in the University's budget development and strategic planning.

Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence (CAFE)
Aligned with ONU’s mission, the Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence (CAFE) will promote faculty excellence in ONU’s inclusive and active learning environment. The CAFE will focus on programming and collaborations that further the development of effective and innovative practices in the ongoing work of faculty as teachers-scholars.

Throughout the year, CAFE hosts workshops and other faculty development opportunities; coordinates campus events featuring regionally- and nationally-known experts in teaching and learning; and provides consultations for faculty at ONU.

CAFE offers consultations for individual ONU faculty related to instruction and design. All consultations are confidential and can range from a brief phone call to several meetings. In agreed-upon cases, consultations can also include classroom observation and small-group instructional feedback.
