Dr. Sheridan, Mike (with the poster) and Andrea looking for the future in Washington, D.C. at the meeting of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR).
Our students receive a strong, in-depth education in classical and modern physics. Majors are well prepared to pursue further education in graduate or professional schools, for teaching in high school, or for positions in industry and government.
Highlights
- graduates enrolled in top graduate schools, including
MIT, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Univ. of Texas (Austin)
- students participate in research with faculty in
astronomy, solid state physics, plasma physics and optics
- cutting edge experimental research is performed on
campus using the Dusty ONU experimenT (D.ONU.T)
- majors receive summer research fellowships at
universities such as Cornell, Indiana, Iowa, Wright State
and UC Davis
- we offer the full undergraduate physics curriculum necessary for success in
graduate school
- majors present papers at regional and national
conferences
- students and faculty regularly attend the meeting of
the Ohio-region Section of the American Physical Society
- small upper level courses with 5 to 10 students
- active chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS)
Degrees offered
- physics major (B.S.) - a rigorous major in
preparation for graduate or professional school
- modified physics major (B.S.) - for teaching
licensure or as a second major for students in
engineering, science and math
- astronomy minor - for physics (and other) majors
interested in astronomy
- physics minor - for students interested in physics
but majoring in another discipline
