Welcome to the Department of Mathematics
at
Ohio Northern University

We offer majors in mathematics and mathematics/statistics, as well as minors in mathematics, applied mathematics and applied statistics. Our majors may choose a general education program leading to either the B.A. degree or the B.S. degree. The Mathematics Department cooperates with the Center for Teacher Education in program planning for licensure for those desiring to teach at the secondary school level. Our secondary education program in mathematics is nationally accredited by the NCTM. Some of our students choose to continue their education in graduate school. In the last seven years, our students gave 42 presentations at regional or national mathematics meetings and co-authored six mathematics or statistics related publications. Among the graduate schools which accepted our students we can include Ohio State University, Purdue University, University of Florida and the University of North Carolina. A wide variety of job opportunities are available for the students completing our  mathematics/ statistics track: they can pursue various careers in industry, finance, actuarial science, operations research, system analysis, etc.

  • New faculty-student research publication: Mihai Caragiu and John Holodnak - "On Sampling Periodic Functions", Far East Journal of Mathematical Sciences  (forthcoming)
  • Two ONU Math majors presented their research at  the Student Poster Session held at the 2008 Joint Meetings in San Diego. Andrew Magyar (working in coperation with colleagues from the REU held at Wabash College) won an award for the poster presentation "An Investigation in the Structure of Digroups". John Holodnak presented his research in the poster""On Sequences Not Satisfying Recurrence Relations".
