Ohio Northern presents students with unique opportunities, and Ada Friends is one of them. Ada Friends is a local program that pairs college students with an Ada Elementary student for a mentorship program. The ONU student meets with the elementary student once a week for the entire school year to do various activities. The elementary students benefit from the stable, positive influence of the college students, while the college students have opportunities to serve as role models, mentors, confidantes, tutors and friends.
Lauren Brackman, a junior exercise physiology major from Tipp City, Ohio, is the Ada Friends coordinator. She says being involved in Ada friends helps her grow as a person, strengthens her faith, enhances her confidence, keeps her youthful and provides a great outlet from the stress of college. She says she has “formed many friendships and lasting memories” through the Ada Friends program.
The most rewarding part of being involved in Ada Friends is having the chance to make a difference in the ONU and Ada communities. “You are able to see how your work makes a difference, and for me, that is the most important part.”
