Next step: sales engineer at Allied Machine and Engineering

Zachary Himes practically grew up in a race shop, spending hours as a child watching his dad build sprint car engines.

“That’s probably a big part of why I am where I am today,” he says. “I love being around metal and machinery and I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty.”

At ONU, this Findlay, Ohio native majored in manufacturing technology and minored in business administration. After graduation in spring 2023, he embarked on a career as a sales engineer for Allied Machine and Engineering in Dover, Ohio, a company where he interned.

Zach says manufacturing technology at ONU was a natural fit for him. He liked the “small town vibe” of ONU’s campus and the exceptional professors and technology equipment that ONU provided

His major was hands-on with abundant opportunities to build machinery and equipment using his imagination and the tools at hand. For his senior capstone project, he and his team members built a robotic greenhouse. It was a challenging project that led to growth in knowledge and friendships.

“Spending countless hours on this project with my partners is still one of my best memories yet,” he says.

Zach was also a member of the Student Advisory Board and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. His favorite group was Epsilon Pi Tau. He appreciated that his ONU professors pushed him to be the best he could be academically, which resulted in his membership in this international honors fraternity for technology.

As he looks toward the future, Zach is happy with his chosen University and major.

“I am proud to be part of a tight-knit community and overall, just proud to be an alumni and Polar Bear forever,” he says.
