Type of Offering
Major Minor

As a religion major, you will explore various religious and philosophical traditions in depth. You’ll take challenging classes that require self-reflection, dialogue and extensive writing.

We also offer a pre-seminary option if you’re interested in attending a seminary. You’ll be assigned a faculty advisor who will work with you from day one until you graduate. Your advisor will help you design a theology program of study that will prepare you for the rigors of seminary.

Although ONU is associated with the United Methodist Church, our religious studies is non-sectarian. In other words, we don’t favor a certain religion. But you’ll discover that faith and service are integral parts of life on campus for most ONU students.

At ONU, you’re guaranteed to learn just as much outside the classroom as you do inside. You may attend national religion conferences and engage in internships. Or undertake independent studies. Or build homes for Habitat for Humanity or mentor troubled youth in juvenile detention centers.

From the moment you arrive on campus, you’ll feel at home. You’ll become part of a close-knit family. You’ll enjoy small class sizes and amazing friendships. Our dedicated professors will get to know you. Your academic progress will be closely monitored to make sure your GPA remains solid. Our professors go above and beyond to provide extra help and tutoring if needed. They will help you grow intellectually, spiritually and professionally. They will become personally invested in your success – in college and beyond.

When you graduate from ONU, you’ll have the knowledge, skills and confidence to follow your calling – wherever it leads!
