Professional Commitment Ceremony (White Coat Ceremony) - Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019

At this solemn, yet momentous occasion, third-year pharmacy students will be asked to take an oath of Professional Commitment and receive White Coats from their mentor to signify their commitment to the profession and their future patients. Register your mentor here!

Schedule of Events:

  • Ceremony takes place annually. Event held in the Field House of King Horn Sports Center in Ada, Ohio. (Parking is free and available close to the ceremony on a first-come/first-serve basis.)
  • Students should arrange a convenient meeting location with their mentor prior to picking up their White Coat.
  • Mentor/Mentee Breakfast TBD
  • Student will pick up their White Coats in the King Horn North Gym at 10:15 a.m.
  • The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. and last approximately 1 hour.
  • A reception and Student Organization Showcase will immediately follow the ceremony.






What time is the ceremony?
The ceremony is at 11:00 a.m. in the Field House.  Students and mentors need to be there at 10:15 a.m.  Please meet in the King Horn North Gym for line up.

Will there be a Mentor-Mentee Event?
There will be a Mentor-Mentee Breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 28 before the Professional Commitment Ceremony. Exact time and location of breakfast TBD.

Who will receive an invitation?
Students should send invitations via email to family members and their guests.  No tickets are necessary to attend.  Students and mentors will not receive formal invitations, although students are encourage to send their mentor a Save the Date invitation via email and confirm their mentor's ability to attend. 

Who can be a mentor?
A mentor must be a registered or retired pharmacist. Current ONU pharmacy students and faculty members are NOT available to act as mentors on the day of the ceremony.

What if I don’t have someone that I want to ask to be my mentor?
There are many resources available to you. Reach out to faculty, they have built their own networks over the years and are always willing to give suggestions; PGY1 residents (past and present) who would be honored to be a mentor; the HealthWise Pharmacy housed within the College that has a pharmacist manager who is also very helpful; the Dean conducts a Resident Leadership class with 9 resident pharmacists -- to name just a few resources.

How will the ceremony proceed?
The white coats will be passed out before the ceremony. They will be given to your mentor before you line up in the King Horn North gym.

When do I get my signed Oath?
You will receive your previously signed 'Code of Professionalism' on the day of the ceremony, after you are coated.

How long will the ceremony last?
Dean Martin will give the opening and closing remarks. The ceremony should  last approximately 1 hour.

Is there a reception after the ceremony?
Yes. There will be a reception and Student Organization Showcase following the ceremony in the Field House.

What is the dress code for Mentees?
Dress should be professional. If you wear a suit, you should leave your jacket at home since you will be putting on and wearing a white coat. Your mentor should also dress professionally, but not in a white coat.

What is the dress code for Mentors?
Mentors are expected to have professional dress.

Where should guests sit?
Seating and programs will be available for your guests in the King Horn Field House during the time you are lining up in the King Horn North gym. Doors open at 9:30 a.m.
