Walking for Wellness
Walking for Wellness: Dash for Disney
Walking for Wellness is back again this fall, with another new twist. This semester, ONU HealthWise challenges you and your team to walk to Disney World in 10 weeks. (see below.) We’d also like to welcome student walkers this semester. Due to the overwhelming amount of interest in this program in the past, we are sending this email to provide more information on the program and how to sign up.
Walking for Wellness is a 10 week walking program. Once you sign up for the program, we will contact you to set up an initial appointment before the program begins. At this appointment, you will be asked to complete an initial survey and you will be provided with a pedometer and a log to track your steps. Replacement pedometers can be purchased for $5. We will also check and record your weight, body mass index, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and glucose level (you must be fasting 10 hours for these labs). Students participating are not required to complete lab work.
Every Thursday, you will need to report to Pharmacy room 211 to have your pedometer checked OR email your “steps” to HealthWise@onu.edu. At the pedometer checks, a member of the HealthWise team will make sure each participant is completing the daily walking goals, provide the participant with more individualized walking goals if necessary, and present tips for keeping physically active. We’ll also be giving out a few random weekly prizes.
Dash for Disney
I’m going to Disney World! This semester the challenge is for you and your team (4 people max please) to walk the equivalent distance between Ada, OH and Walt Disney World (1,000 miles). Any team of 4 people that walks a combined 1,000 miles over the 10 week period will receive 10 healthy campus points AND be registered for a chance to win a Disney themed prize. Don’t have a team of 4? No problem. We’ll either pair you up with someone else looking for a teammate or prorate your required distance to 250 miles/person.
