Dr. Chrissobolis completed his Ph.D. at the University of Melbourne in the Department of Pharmacology, where he investigated how potassium channels and rho-kinase are involved in cerebral vascular function under normal conditions and during chronic hypertension. In 2004, he was awarded a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) CJ Martin Overseas Training Fellowship to work at the University of Iowa studying the involvement of antioxidant defense mechanisms in protecting against vascular dysfunction caused by angiotensin II. His current research is focused on mechanisms by which aldosterone and angiotensin II are involved in cerebrovascular disease.
