"Gaudete: The It's Not Quite Christmas Yet" Concert

Celebrating 90 years of music at ONU

The Wind Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra perform together on this program. The Symphony will play Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, music from Mission Impossible, Puccini’s Capriccio Sinfonico and Suburban Grooves by Ohio composer Clint Needham. Noah Walter, a winner of the concerto competition will perform the first movement of Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor. Walter is a junior music performance major from Findlay, Ohio.

The music of Clint Needham has been described as “wildly entertaining” and “stunning... brilliantly orchestrated” by The New York Times as well as “well-crafted and arresting… riveting” by The Herald-Times. As an educator, Needham currently serves as composer-in-residence/assistant professor of music at the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music.

The Ohio Northern Symphony is a hybrid orchestra comprised of a highly select group of students, faculty and professionals. The symphony performs at least four programs a year, and enrollment is open, by way of audition, to all University students regardless of major.

The ONU Wind Orchestra, directed by Dr. Thomas Hunt, performs collegiate- and professional-level literature for wind band. Membership is by competitive audition held at the beginning of the school year.
