At this solemn, yet momentous occasion, third-year pharmacy students will be asked to take an oath of Professional Commitment and receive White Coats from their mentor to signify their commitment to the profession and their future patients.
Schedule of Events:
- Ceremony takes place annually. Event held in the Field House of King Horn Sports Center in Ada, Ohio. (Parking is free and available close to the ceremony on a first-come/first-serve basis.)
- Student will pick up their White Coats in the King Horn North Gym at 10:15 a.m.
- The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. and last approximately 1 hour.
- For 2020, the Professional Commitment Ceremony will be live-streamed via the Raabe College of Pharmacy Facebook page.
- Social Distancing will be followed, and facemasks are required to be worn.
About our speaker:
Laura Cranston serves as the founder and CEO of the Pharmacy Quality Alliance (PQA). In this role, she oversees PQA as a quality measure organization with roles as a healthcare quality educator, researcher, and convener, and its primary role as a developer of measures that assess the safe and appropriate use of medications. As part of her responsibilities, Laura works with different organizations (including federal and state payors, health plans, PBMs, community pharmacy organizations, technology vendors and life sciences organizations) to encourage the uptake and implementation of meaningful medication use measures into the marketplace.
Prior to her current position, Laura served as the inaugural Executive Director for the Institute for the Advancement of Community Pharmacy, an organization whose mission was to advance innovative practices and community pharmacist-delivered services in ambulatory care, as well as in independent and chain community pharmacy practice in the United States.
For over a decade Laura served as the Vice President of Pharmacy Affairs for the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS). While at NACDS, she was responsible for developing policy and positions in concert with NACDS chain corporations, on issues that included, but were not limited to: third party issues, state board of pharmacy regulations, OUR/counseling, training pharmacy technicians, and legislation to establish a Medicare prescription drug benefit.
Laura is active within the healthcare community and currently serves on the University of Notre Dame College of Pharmacy Board of Advisors, and the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement (PCP I) and is a frequent guest lecturer at state and national healthcare conferences, and colleges of pharmacy across the country. Laura is a pharmacist and graduate of St. John's University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and a former Executive Resident of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists.
What time is the ceremony?
The ceremony is at 11:00 a.m. in the Field House. Students need to be there at 10:15 a.m. Please meet in the King Horn North Gym for line up.
Will there be a Mentor-Mentee Event?
Following the State of Ohio and Hardin County Health Center COVID-19 guidelines, there will be no Mentor-Mentee Breakfast this year.

Family and friends are invited to join the LiveStreaming event via the College of Pharmacy Facebook page.
Who can be a mentor?
For 2020, the Raabe College of Pharmacy faculty are excited to serve as mentors to the P3 class and will "coat" the students. No mentor registration is required.
What if I don’t have someone that I want to ask to be my mentor?

How will the ceremony proceed?
The white coats will be passed out before the ceremony. They will be given to you before you line up in the King Horn North gym.
When do I get my signed Oath?
You will receive your previously signed 'Code of Professionalism' on the day of the ceremony, after you are coated.
How long will the ceremony last?
Dean Martin will give the opening and closing remarks. The ceremony should last approximately 1 hour.
Is there a reception after the ceremony?
Following the State of Ohio and Hardin County Health Center COVID-19 guidelines, there will be no reception for the 2020 Ceremony.
What is the dress code for Mentees?
Dress should be professional. If you wear a suit, you should leave your jacket at home since you will be putting on and wearing a white coat. Your mentor should also dress professionally, but not in a white coat.
What is the dress code for Mentors?
Mentors are expected to have professional dress.
Where should guests sit?
Following the State of Ohio and Hardin County Health Center COVID-19 guidelines, there will be no guest seating available. The Ceremony will be live-streamed for family and friends via the Raabe College of Pharmacy Facebook page.
