Please join special guest artists, Daniel Duarte, Petar Jankovich and Laura Stephany Cohen for a Multicultural Guitar Concert and talk on Friday, April 30th at 3:00 p.m.
Enjoy a fusion of multiculturalism viewed through the lens of guitar music. Guitar is arguably one of the most ubiquitous instruments throughout the world. It comes in many forms and has a long history of accompanying kingly courts to roguish vagabonds. From classical to pop, guitar connects people in a relatable fusion of commonality. This symposium discusses guitar within culture, and how our many varied cultures are unique gems interconnected by music. Borrowing ideas from others, is it misplaced appropriation, admiration, or a unique blend? The forty-five minute concert will be followed by a fifteen minute question & answer session. Repertoire includes works from composers Villa-Lobos, Ivanovic, Roland Dyens, Bogdonovic, Bach, Vivaldi, Scarlatti, and the Beatles.
