The learning experiences here are limitless! You can flex your creative muscle and develop leadership skills through outside opportunities. Have an idea for a show? We’ll work with you to develop and produce it. Want to try improv? We have a student-led improv group. Interested in a summer internship or joining a student organization? We’ve got you covered.

Members of Ohio Northern University’s Fearless Shenanygans performed with the Second City in “The Second City Fully Loaded” at the Freed Center for the Performing Arts. Alumni returned to Ohio Northern University during Homecoming 2015.

Fearless Shenanygans

Fearless Shenanygans is about having fun and the freedom to create. The group – entirely run by students – brings together students on campus (from all majors) who enjoy the art of improv. The group rehearses once a week and produces one show a month on campus. Every year, ONU brings one or two guest improv artists to campus to interact with the group. If you join Fearless Shenanygans, you’ll learn to use tools and games to hone your improv skills. You’ll also develop skills that are useful in any profession – including creativity, listening skills and the ability to think on your feet. And most importantly, you’ll forge new friendships while having a blast!

Intern/Summer Work

Why not spend the summer doing what you love? Summer break brings the chance to participate in theatre in the outside world. We provide one-on-one support to help you find an awesome experience for the summer. We can seek out a behind-the-scenes internship, or help you prepare an audition and land a role in a theatrical production.

Trips and Tours

ONU’s campus is your home away from home. A place where you’ll feel safe and cared for and where you’ll be inspired. But your education will extend beyond campus borders. From Toledo to Chicago, New York City to Manchester, England, our theatre students embark on trips and tours to expand their understanding of the arts. You’ll have a chance to attend national conferences in major U.S. cities, attend professional theatre productions and Shakespeare Festivals, visit local elementary schools to perform skits, and prepare and travel to auditions for summer theatre positions.

Student Organizations

Joining a student organization gives opportunities to attend regional and national conferences, plan activities on campus, grow leadership skills, and give back to others.

Theta Alpha Phi: National Theatre Honor Society

ONU is home to the Ohio Epsilon Chapter of Theta Alpha Phi, the oldest nationwide educational theatre honor society in the world. The organization recognizes college students who earn a high level of quality in theatre study and production. Theta Alpha Phi is dedicated to making theatre a fulfilling experience for all students. Past activities of our campus chapter have included a performance and silent auction to benefit the Broadway Cares, Equity Fights AIDS organization, and the funding of a student trip to Chicago.
