Michelle Haver

Senior mathematics major Michelle Haver was dead set on finding a job after graduation. She spent the majority of her time looking and applying for internships to get a jump start on her career. In the midst of applying, Dr. Mihai Caragiu, department chair and professor of mathematics, suggested she look into a research experience for undergraduates (REU).

Caragiu pushed her to apply to 15 research opportunities. After a long few months of waiting, she heard back from Michigan State University and ended up having one of the most amazing experiences of her life.

Mathematics is Michelle’s passion, and it’s been that way for as long as she can remember. She always has wanted to do something with math, but she didn’t know all of her options until she attended Ohio Northern and completed her REU this summer. She says, “Ohio Northern completely changed my outlook on the future.”

“Without the help and support of Northern’s faculty, I would have never thought about research as a potential career. I would have never gained this valuable experience to help me in my future profession.”

At Ohio Northern, students are given many opportunities to better themselves and learn valuable information for their future. Michelle says, “Choosing to completely immerse yourself in something that fuels your passion will make this little village feel like a much bigger place. It’s a small-town university that packs a huge punch.”
