2014 WINTER CAREER AND GRADUATE PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL CAREER FAIR: FEBRUARY 26, 2014, FIELD HOUSE OF KING HORN SPORTS CENTER - For recruitment from majors in Arts & Sciences, Business Administration and Engineering for full or part-time, co-op, internships, summer positions or for admission to graduate/professional school.
Recruiter Check-in: 8:00 a.m. - 8:45 a.m.
Open Fair: 9:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.
Lunch and Networking for Recruiters and Faculty: 11:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Optional Interviews: 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Recruiters may select candidates during morning open fair and schedule for interviews during afternoon.)

This is an opportunity for students/alumni and faculty to network with recruiters and find out about opportunities within the organization.

Throughout the year, Polar Careers sponsors or co-sponsors events that enable our students to engage with potential employers. Training workshops are provided to prepare students for that interaction. On-campus fall and spring career fairs are held for majors in arts and sciences, business administration, and engineering. A fall career fair is held for pharmacy majors. Students are provided with information about virtual career fairs and career fairs throughout the country.
Why Attend Career Fairs?
Students sometimes ask why they should attend career fairs when they can usually submit their resume online. Certainly it is easier to submit online, and even at career fairs, recruiters may ask students to submit their application materials online. So why take the time to dress professionally and show up at a career fair?
Taking the extra effort to attend career fairs shows initiative and provides networking opportunities. It also gives you the chance to talk to recruiters about the application process, what recruiters are looking for in applicants, what you should include on your resume to get you noticed, information about the corporate culture, and other valuable tips you can get only from face-to-face interaction.
Don't miss opportunities because you assume there is no need to talk to recruiters who are there to hire other majors. Even though the recruiter may be seeking individuals from one major, their company may hire other majors as well. For instance, if you are a business major, don't overlook opportunities with an engineering firm because you think they only hire engineers. If a recruiter is impressed with you, they will pass along your information to the relevant people.
The importance of face-to-face conversation can not be over-emphasized. Having well-developed interpersonal communication skills is a necessity in the workplace and in the competitive job market. Recruiters are looking for exceptional candidates – the career fair provides you the opportunity to prove that you are one.
Maximize Your Career Fair Experience
Attend "Career Fair Success Strategies" workshops sponsored by the Polar Careers office for tips on achieving success at career fairs.
On-campus recruiting schedules and employer qualifications will be posted with the announcement of upcoming on-campus interviewing opportunities on Polar Careers powered by Symplicity.

Student preparation - Prepare by researching the organization in advance of your on-campus interview. You will be expected to become familiar with the organization and prepare questions about the position and the organization.
Informational meetings prior to interviews - Informational meetings may be scheduled in advance of the actual interviews to save valuable interview time. Your attendance at these meetings is strongly recommended and may be required by the employer.
On Interview Day - Dress professionally. Arrive 10-15 minutes before the scheduled interview time and wait in the designated area. Interviewers will come for you when they are ready to see you. Interview cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled time by notifying the Polar Careers office. Failure to do so will result in the suspension of your on-campus interviewing privileges with the Polar Careers office. Should this happen, you, your dean and your department chair will be notified.
