Whether you are returning to campus or joining us for the first time, our goal is to provide every guest with a variety of great taste sensations.
Over the past two years, Sodexo has taken aggressive steps towards improving the overall dining experience for our students.
We now have a new executive chef in Chef Allen Blankenship. Hired in January of 2013, Chef Allen has made many improvements in our menus and overall choices. Chef Allen comes to us with years of experience and has planted firm roots in the community.
In McIntosh, many of the changes are based on healthy living. We have instituted our "Mindful" plate which has all the components of a well balanced meal, and is offered daily. New this year, 60 percent of our menu choices are from the "mindful" category. Also to insure students have healthy choices everyday we are offering fresh cut fruit in several locations throughout the cafeteria, along with our whole fruit. Several of our cereal choices are healthy, angel food cake is offered daily as a dessert option, a "Silk Milk" machine has been added to our beverage offerings,and we are now offering fair-trade coffee.
On the vegetarian line we now offer Mediterranean salad and two types of hummus, along with with daily, fresh-made pita chips. Our salad bar as grown immensely over the last two years with a larger variety of fresh composed salads daily. All of our menu choices are clearly labeled with nutritional information, we also display the menu above each line on digital screens.
The changes to our retail locations, White Bear Inn and Northern on Main, reflect a desire to provide students with more interesting and exiting menu options. "Pastabilities" and "Wings and Things" are new at White Bear Inn and we are offering a wider variety of foods in our in our "Simply to Go" cases at White Bear Inn and Northern on Main, including Mediterranean salads and hand rolled Sushi. In addition, we have added items like our Gourmet Grilled Cheese and Bodacious Specialty Burger to White Bear Inn's menu. At Northern on Main the entire sandwich menu has been revamped, along with new salad options made fresh daily. Students and guest will notice new signage at our locations so our patrons can clearly see our offerings along with our daily specials.
Throughout the year, students will notice more special events at McIntosh, including Rock the Bike smoothie days, Crave, a sit-down, served restaurant experience that students may attend by using their points. Be on the lookout for Chef's Table, where Chef Allen creates a unique dining experience with demonstration cooking in the dining room. We have also offered "swipe plus" which allows students to enhance their meal by adding points to their meal swipe.
And finally, Sodexo is proud to be introducing Dining by Design, a brand new way to serve the students. We have already started the process and introduced Dining by Design at the salad bar. This new, modern take on serving the students will enhance their everyday dining experience. Dining by Design ensures that food is served at the peak of freshness, with a renewed interest in presentation.
