Leaders' Council
The purpose of Leaders’ Council is to bring together leaders of various student organizations to promote student leadership development at Ohio Northern University by:
- Providing leadership resources to campus leaders.
- Serving as an advisory board to the Office of Student Involvement.
- Coordinating with the Office of Student Involvement, organizational and individual leadership programs.
The council was formed in 2002 as an outcome of a University-leadership taskforce with the intention to promote leadership development at Ohio Northern University. Since then, Leaders’ Council has brought many leadership programs to campus, from leadership speakers like Libuse Binder, Steve Gilliland, and Joseph Williams to organizational workshops that target group communication and membership development. Leaders' Council also hosts the Annual Networking Dinner as a means to facilitate cooperation across various student organizations. Furthermore, with the addition of The Leadership Experience this past year, Leaders’ Council now offers individual leadership development workshops open to all students. The council is continuously expanding both aspects of organizational and individual leadership development, offering newer workshops and developing more innovative leadership programs.
In addition to organizing general workshops and seminars for students, Leaders’ Council also partners with student organizations on an individual basis. In the 2010-2011 academic year Leaders' Council and Student Senate teamed together to bring innovative speaker Doug Cureton to campus for a student leadership conference. Following the conference theme, Transformation: Discovering the Leader Within, Cureton shared many tips about how to transform students into leaders and how to improve leadership skills. Whether it is organizing a leadership seminar or facilitating a goal-setting and planning session, Leaders’ Council will work closely with your group in determining topics that specifically target your organization’s need.
