Prelaw
ONU Prelaw Program
Ohio Northern University has developed a unique prelaw program
which offers an excellent opportunity for superior students
preparing for a career in law. The program is open to all students
enrolled in any academic department of the Colleges of Arts and
Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering, or Pharmacy.
Students in the prelaw program select a major and complete the
necessary requirements as do other students. The University Prelaw
Advising Committee, with representatives from each of the
undergraduate colleges, the law college, and undergraduate
placement, advises students to include in their studies specific
courses that encourage and develop
- comprehension and expression
in words,
- critical understanding of the human institutions and
values with which the law deals, and
- creative power in
thinking.
The committee also supervises
- a prelaw orientation
course,
- a Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) preparatory workshop
and
- a mentoring program involving prelaw students with local
attorneys.
Members of the committee advise students on related
matters such as applying for admission to law schools.
Students in the prelaw program will gain admittance to the
Ohio Northern University College of Law if they
- maintain an
undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.2;
- score in at
least the 65th percentile on the LSAT; and
- pass the character
and fitness review by the Admissions Committee of the College of
Law.
To take advantage of the automatic admission program, a
student must enroll in the College of Law in the fall semester
immediately following the date that the student receives an
undergraduate degree from Ohio Northern.
Additional information is available through the offices of the
deans.
