Brief Statement of ONU Policy on the Privacy of Student Records

It is the policy and practice of Ohio Northern University that directory information concerning students IS NOT released to off campus organizations, businesses or groups.
This is to reduce unwanted solicitation of students by such groups.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), as amended, provides students the following rights with respect to their educational record:

  1. The right to review and inspect their individual educational records.
  2. The right to request amendment to the educational record to ensure that they are not inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student's privacy or other rights.
  3. The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in the educational record, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.

Requests for nondisclosure apply to all directory information, must be made in writing to the Registrar's Office, and remain in effect until rescinded, in writing, by the student.

  4. The right to file with the Ohio Northern University FERPA Compliance officer a complaint concerning alleged failures to comply with the requirements of FERPA.
