White Coat Ceremony
At this solemn, yet momentous occasion, third-year pharmacy students will be asked to take an oath of Professional Commitment and receive White Coats from their mentor to signify their commitment to the profession and their future patients.
Schedule of Events:
- Ceremony take place on Nov. 12, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in the Field House of King Horn Sports Center in Ada, Ohio. (Parking is free and available close to the ceremony on a first-come/first-serve basis.)
- Mentor-Mentee breakfast held in the McIntosh Dining Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
- After breakfast, students and mentors to arrive in the Field House by 9:45 a.m.
- The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. and last approximately 1 hour.
- A reception and Student Organization Showcase to follow the ceremony.
2016 Ceremony Speaker:
Chester “Chet” Kaczor, a 2006 ONU pharmacy graduate, will lead the 2016 Professional Commitment Ceremony address to third-year pharmacy students on Saturday, November 12, 2016. Kaczor was installed as president of the Ohio Pharmacists Association (OPA) in April of 2016. He also was awarded the 2016 Pharmacy Leadership Award from the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA). An active OPA member since 2004, Kaczor has served on multiple committees, including Legal & Regulatory, Public & Professional Relations, and Long Range Planning in addition to serving on the Board of Trustees. Kaczor also has been instrumental in the creation of several focus groups for the OPA, including the New Practitioner Experience and provider status group. Kaczor is currently the director of pharmacy services at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH.

What time is the ceremony?
The ceremony is November 12, 2016 at 10:30 AM in the Field House. Students and mentors need to be there at 9:45 AM. Please meet in the King Horn south gym.
What time is the Mentor-Mentee Breakfast?
Breakfast is at 8:30 a.m.
Who will receive an invitation?
Students should send invitations via email to family members and their guests. No tickets are necessary to attend. Students and mentors will not receive formal invitations, although students are encourage to send their mentor a Save the Date invitation via email and confirm their mentor's ability to attend.
Who can be a mentor?
A mentor must be a registered or retired pharmacist. Current ONU pharmacy students and faculty members are not available to act as mentor's on the day of the ceremony.
What if I don’t have someone that I want to ask to be my mentor?
A mentor will be assigned to you in October.
How will the ceremony proceed?
The white coats will be passed out before the ceremony. They will be given to your mentor when you line up. This will eliminate having the stage crowded with tables for the white coats and the need to pass them out during the ceremony.
When do I get my signed Oath?
You will receive your previously signed 'Code of Professionalism' on the day of the ceremony, just after you are coated. It will be in a plastic folder to keep it from getting torn or wrinkled.
How long will the ceremony last?
Dean Martin will give the opening and closing remarks. The entire ceremony should not last too much longer than an hour.
Is there a reception after the ceremony?
Yes. There will be a reception and Student Organization Showcase following the ceremony in the Field House.
What is the dress code for Mentees?
Dress should be professional. If you wear a suit, you should leave your jacket at home since you will be putting on and wearing a white coat. Your mentor should also dress professionally, but not in a white coat. White Coat Ceremony attire guidelines.
What is the dress code for Mentors?
Mentors are expected to have professional dress but a white coat is not necessary.
Where should the guests sit?
Programs and seating will be available for your guests in the King Horn Field House during the time you are lining up in the South Gym.
