Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Opportunities

The Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency at Ohio Northern University is offered in conjunction with the ONU HealthWise program. This provides pharmacy graduates that match into the program with a unique opportunity to work in an extremely innovative healthcare setting. ONU HealthWise is an interdisciplinary team of pharmacists, nurses, exercise physiologists and nutritionists that serves Hardin County citizens and the employees and students of Ohio Northern University.

As a clinical pharmacist on the team, residents will provide direct patient care in the following areas:

Health and Wellness:

  • Health services
  • Preventive services
  • Health education

Collaborative Family
Medicine Practice:

  • Family medicine rounds
  • Transition of care coordination
  • Collaborative diabetes management

Ambulatory Care:

  • Anticoagulation services
  • Outpatient pharmacy and medication reconciliation
  • Pharmacy administration (P&T)

Drug and Health
Information Center:

  • Call center for professionals and consumers

Rural Preventive
Health Service:

  • Health and wellness services for medically underserved
  • Care coordination
  • Collaboration with community


  • Teaching certificate program
  • Leadership rotation
  • Formal leadership and management training


Opportunities for clinical expansion also exist, including supervising activities in the Drug and Health Information Center. The resident is required to complete a residency project, provide a poster presentation at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting, and present results at the annual Ohio Pharmacy Residency Conference.
