ONU students work up an appetite for bike-blended smoothies
Ohio Northern University’s McIntosh Center Dining Hall offered a treat for the do-it-yourself crowd today in the form of the Fender Blender, a bicycle-powered blender from RocktheBike.com. The innovative device lets students provide the energy required to make a delicious and nutritious smoothie, while burning a few calories along the way.
Depending on one’s pedaling prowess, smoothies can be mixed, blended, whipped or even frappéd. And don’t think it’s just for students. ONU’s president and first lady, Dan DiBiasio and Chris Burns-DiBiasio —both avid cyclists— each took a spin on the Fender Blender, churning and burning their way to a delectable treat.
RocktheBike.com provides Fender Blenders for a variety of public events and claims that their product “taps you into the magic of community power, the cleanest and best source of power currently available.”
