ONU's doctor of pharmacy degree program has been re-accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) for a full cycle of eight years. This is the maximum length of re-accreditation bestowed upon pharmacy degree programs in the United States.The program was evaluated in the fall and found fully compliant in all 30 standards the ACPE requires.
The men's and women's lacrosse teams will open their inaugural seasons with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Dial-Roberson Stadium. The Polar Bear men, under the guidance of head coach Nat St. Laurent, will play at 1 p.m. against Franciscan. The Polar Bear women follow with their contest against Olivet (Mich.) at 4 p.m. under head coach Beth Hemminger.
A team from the Ohio Northern University chapter of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) has been selected as one of five regional winners of the 2015-16 "Prescription for Service" competition. The ONU division of SNPhA will receive a $2,500 grant award that will enable it to implement a service program in the community.
Ohio Northern University has joined RecycleMania, the premier collegiate recycling competition managed by Keep America Beautiful, to see who will claim the championship in the fight to reduce, reuse, recycle and compost the most on campuses across the country. RecycleMania will run for eight weeks alongside the collegiate basketball season.
ONU President Daniel A. DiBiasio was awarded Phi Gamma Delta's Distinguished Fiji Award at ONU's Greek Awards Banquet on Feb. 14. The award is presented annually to no more than six graduate brothers who are deserving of recognition for their career accomplishments, their special contribution to mankind and society at large, or their faithful and unselfish service to Phi Gamma Delta.
The ONU Wind Orchestra presents "Raising the Bar" on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. Newer pieces will be presented in this collaboration between the ONU Wind Orchestra (Thomas A. Hunt, conductor) and the ONU Dancers (Liz Cozad, choreographer).
Shayla Siefker, a fifth-year pharmacy student from Ottoville, Ohio, received the Northwest Ohio Pharmacists Association (NWOPA) Scholarship for the 2015-16 academic year. Siefker will begin her Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) rotations this summer and seeks to match into a residency program in hospital or ambulatory care.
ONU Greek Life was well represented at the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values (AFLV) central conference in Indianapolis, Ind., on Feb. 4-7, 2016. Four delegates from the Panhellenic Council, three delegates from the Interfraternity Council, six chapter delegates and an advisor attended the conference, which is the largest fraternal conference in the country.
Ohio Northern University's Raabe College of Pharmacy honored three alumni with Distinguished Alumni Awards on Feb. 12. Timothy Tracy, BSPh ’83, Leonard L. “Bud” Lance, BSPh ’70, and John A. Armitstead, BSPh ’79, were recognized for their outstanding career accomplishments and their contributions to ONU.
Ohio Northern has been recognized by the Ohio Academy of Science. Terry Keiser, Ohio Northern University's director of sustainability and professor of biological sciences, and Dr. Robert K. McAfee, ONU assistant professor of human anatomy, were selected as Believe in Ohio science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) Exemplars by the academy.
Tyler Burnett, BS '14, made his on-camera debut on the Motor Racing Network's The Inside Line Fantasy Racing Show last week, offering up fantasy racing advice prior to the Daytona 500. Burnett has worked for MRN since 2014 as a radio producer and podcast host. At ONU, Burnett majored in sport management and electronic broadcasting.
Dr. Jed Marquart, professor of mechanical engineering, has been named interim director of the Ohio Space Grant Consortium (OSGC) by The Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI). The OSGC is a NASA-sponsored collaborative of 26 Ohio higher education institutions with a mission to advance the nation's capability in STEM.
Scott Gerber, professor of law, wrote an article for the Huffington Post on the battle over filling Justice Antonin Scalia's seat on the U.S. Supreme Court. Gerber maintains that "partisan usage of the appointment process is not what the original understanding of the Constitution demands."
Dr. Ray Person, professor of philosophy and religion, recently published the book chapter "Education and Transmission of Tradition" in Companion to Ancient Israel. The book is edited by Susan Niditch and published by Oxford: Wiley Blackwell, 2016.
