Phi Rho Welcomes 9 New Associates

On Sunday, October 8th, nine girls accepted their bids to join the Iota Chapter of Phi Sigma Rho. Jenna Brace, Lydia Buehrer, Amanda Burke, Jenni Cartwright, Luisa Chinchilla, MaryJo Guthrie, Justine Jacob, Janet Ondrake, and Jill Price met the other 19 sisters and our new sweetheart, Justin Yarnell, at CVA A community room to enjoy fun and games. We started the afternoon off with lunch, played the skittle game, and took some fun pictures. The girls were inducted as the new Kappa Class on Wednesday, October 11th.

Founder’s Day

On November 4, 2006, the sisters Phi Sigma Rho meet for the second annual Founder’s Day. Five Alumni returned to ONU to share this day with the active sisters. To begin the day, Alumni coordinator, Elizabeth Young, (also known as “E”) read some letters, “A Founder Remembers,” from 2 of the 10 founding sisters that couldn’t be there.

Next the families were split into teams for the Founder’s Day Olympics. The new girls or associates were divided and split to create 5 even teams.

Each sister, alumni and active, was given five clothes pins and told not to say the word, “Remember,” or else one clothes pin could be taken away you by another sister. Some sisters had a horrible time with this and within the first hour, all their clothes pins were taken away.

The first game of the Olympics was a quiz. The alumni of each team would ask the questions to the active sisters on their team. The quiz tested our knowledge of the history of the sorority. Those of us unfortunate enough to miss a question had to chew a piece of gum and had several pieces suck in their mouth.

We next passed a pretzel from one team member to another. The pretzel was passed from straw to straw that we held in our mouths. No one can say that they didn’t laugh at the sight of college girls sticking straws in each other’s face just to pass a pretzel.

We also enjoyed other games, such as a cotton ball relay, a first scavenger hunt, and twenty people Catch Phrase. Members of the Alpha class also shared the Greek Alphabet song. I hope the associates got it suck in their head so they could pass their quiz the following day. Then we enjoyed subs, chips, pop and dessert and shared some Phi Rho memories.

All in all it was a good time to share a laugh and learn some Phi Rho history!!! The only day thing bad about Founder’s Day, is that it took me - a die heart OSU fan - away from the game!!!

Family Day

On September 30 th the sisters invited their family and friends to participate in the first Phi Sigma Rho Family Day. The Family Day was in conjugation with the Ohio Northern University Family Weekend. Families originally planned to go to the football game @1:30pm and then follow with a potluck dinner @4pm. Due to serious illness affecting the opposing team, the game was cancelled. Families met at the Affinity dining room where last minute meal preparations were finished. Before the meal everyone introduced their guests to the group; it was nice to finally put faces to sister’s families. After dinner everyone socialized and ate dessert. The event turned out to be a great success and hopefully will continue as an annual event in years to come.
