Requirements:
Dancers are required to learn one dance at clinics as well as choreograph their own 30 seconds to one-minute routine to perform for the judges. They are also required to learn a short kickline routine. There are some technical moves required for tryouts: toe touch, jazz jump, front leap, side leap (both legs), double and triple pirouette, axle turn, and attitude turn. Dancers can also perform optional moves in order to gain extra points: double/triple toe touch, switch leap, fouette turns, any gymnastics or any other moves they specialize in.
Clinic Schedule:
Clinics for the 2009 season are as follows:
Monday September 14th from
8:00pm-10:00pm
Tuesday September 15th from 8:00pm-10:00pm
Wednesday September 16th from 8:00pm-10:00pm
- Dancers have the option of
attending
all three nights of clinics or just one, whatever works best for the
dancers’ schedules.
- All three nights of the clinic will be run the same way, but dancers
must come to at LEAST one clinic date.
- During clinics dancers will learn the required tryout dance, be shown
the technical moves and will be able to ask any questions they may have.
Tryout Schedule:
Tryouts for the 2009 season are as follows:
Sunday September 20th from Noon - 4pm
First hour: dancers will come in the tryout room in groups of
four to perform the dance movements reviewed at clinics (Pirouettes,
Jazz Jumps, Toe Touches, etc).
Second hour: dancers will come in the tryout room in pairs to perform
the choreographed routine and their technical moves.
Third hour: dancers will come in the tryout room individually to
perform their own 30 second to one-minute routine. (Must provide their
own music)
Fourth hour: Spare hour to use if needed.
- Dancers are expected to be at tryouts for the
entire time.
- It is not expected that each segment will take the entire hour, if
one
segment of the tryouts takes less than the allotted hour, the next
segment will begin sooner than scheduled. This will, hopefully, get
everyone out of the tryouts sooner overall.
- During the course of the tryout, those waiting in the hallway are
more
than welcome to practice routines together. We have allowed time for
this with the way tryouts are setup. This gives dancers the time to ask
questions of their peers about dances. Though dancers can practice,
they should respect the judges and those trying out by being quiet in
the hallway..
- Dancers are required to wear black shorts or pants and a plain white
top for tryouts. This keeps everyone uniform and easier to judge.
After dancers complete all three segments of the tryout, they are free
to leave.
