A group of five ONU AIAA members was chosen as one of 48 groups nationwide to participate in the 1998 NASA Reduced Gravity Student Flight Opportunities program. The selection was based upon a proposal submitted by the students to NASA for an undergraduate research project to be performed under reduced gravity. The students flew on March 30-31, 1998 aboard a KC-135 aircraft which flies parabolic trajectories to produce periods of reduced gravity. The ONU group examined the effects of microgravity on flame propagation and combustion.
ONU Group Flew Again in Spring of 1999
A group of students from ONU was again selected by NASA to fly aboard a KC-135 aircraft to perform microgravity experiments. This year, the focus of the investigation was the performance of heat pipes with various wicking structures in a zero-g environment.
ONU Microgravity Team Flies Once More in 2002
Another group of ONU students flew their project with the
Reduced Gravity Student Flight Opportunities Program. This year's project
studied the effects of microgravity on the natural and forced convection
of a heat sink.
